Owen Foote was born in New York City and graduated from the Bronx High School of Science with an award of excellence in technical design. He earned his Bachelor of Environmental Design from the University of Colorado at Boulder and worked for years designing investment banking interiors with Gensler Architects. He started his own practice and consulted for several enterprises while pursuing a Masters in Urban Planning from the City College of New York and an accredited architecture degree from Pratt Institute.
For two years, Owen worked as an architect and planner for Gruzen Samton and now works at the Department of City Planning in Brooklyn, NY. Over his twelve year career, he has managed architectural and interior design projects of up to 400,000 sf. and urban planning projects of major metropolitan commercial and residential developments. Owen is adept at producing quality design within strict financial constraints.
Owen's expertise in zoning and building regulations helps to maximize the value of properties with minimal impact to the surrounding communities. He is often called on as a resource for evaluating architectural structures and facilitating a master plan. Owen's background in architecture and urban design is useful to develop realistic proposals for long-term projects. He has evaluated a variety of building types for existing and adaptive reuse. Owen is experienced in identifying building constraints, deficiencies and opportunities.
As a volunteer, he is actively involved with waterfront revival efforts in Brooklyn, other neighborhoods of New York and Newark, New Jersey. Owen's work has been a catalyst for over 300,000 sf. of renovation and has attracted over 75 million dollars of investment in the Gowanus Canal community of Brooklyn. In his spare time, Owen serves a board member and volunteer with the Gowanus Dredgers Canoe Club that was founded for the preservation and enhancement of New York's estuary. He is involved with many waterfront activities and designed some Internet sites (listed below) that highlight some of the history, charm and character of these areas.
