Captain's Log, 12.12.04

A mild winter has given the Waterfront Museum a good start in building our new homeport. Our progress can be seen in the following photographs below. A most interesting aspect of the project so far has been the opportunity to work with three father and son teams at once; Greg & Michael O’Connell of Pier 41 Associates, marine contractors Jeff and Blaze Wollman, and welders Garth and Burke Hanson. . The space is so enticing and it’s been a thrill to see the big rig come and years of planning taking shape into a new cultural destination.

My sights are beginning to encompass our upcoming season. June will usher in the return of CIRCUSundays and our collaboration with the Red Hook Partners to program the Red Hook Waterfront Arts Festival, the BWAC Pier Show, the SUNSET MUSIC SERIES and that Red Hook’s outback arts & culture scene many have come to love. It sounds grand!

We are even planning to participate in “Blue Links” a late-August voyage with several historic boats visiting upriver communities.

The Waterfront Museum’s 2004 annual appeal was sent to our membership in December. If you have not received one and would like to request one, please contact me by e-mail: dsharps@waterfrontmuseum.org
